What is Drover?

Drover is a fully converted manual Land Rover Defender 110 utility wagon, seating five and sleeping four. An easy-to-use Alucab pop-top roof - which goes up in seconds - creates sleeping for two, accessed from inside the car. The refit boot provides a kitchen, with fridge, two burner stove, sink and storage. The table and bench fold flat to make the second bed - sleeping two children/one adult. A special leisure battery or mains hookup supply all the power needed for a comfortable stay. Outside, a 270 degree awning offers a great space to enjoy the views or shelter from sun (or rain!), and cover to the pop-up loo tent and outdoor shower (possibly not for washing, unless you're attempting really wild camping, but great for keeping mud and sand out of the van!).

What's included in a Drover Camping trip?

We can provide pretty much everything you need. Duvets, sheets and towels. Cutlery, crocs, fire pit and BBQ set, plus a bag of logs. Picnic table set for four. Lanterns and torches. Arrival survival pack with milk, bread, tea, coffee and home made Land Rover biscuits (along with boring things like bin bags, washing up liquid, matches). Gas canister to cover you for basic cooking over a three to four night stay. Fully equipped first aid kit and fire extinguisher. *additional charges apply to linens, towels, fire pit and fuel

All rentals include fully comprehensive insurance for one driver aged between 25  and 75 - see below for more details. Up to 200 free mileage allowance per day.

You are welcome to park your car on our driveway, at your own risk. If you’d prefer, we offer collection from nearby Charlbury and Kingham stations, or Soho Farmhouse.

What are the driver requirements?

We have some important conditions for the purposes of insurance cover. For example, drivers must be aged between 25 and 75 and have held a full UK or EU licence for a minimum of two years. You will not be able to drive our Drover if you have been disqualified from driving, or if you have more than two driving convictions. When you book, we'll ask you to create a licence check code via the DVLA that we'll use to verify your eligibility.  There are a few more specifics we can share when you book (or now, if you'd like - just email) but, honestly, we won't bore you with them now!

Is there a charge for an additional driver?

Additional drivers are charged at £25 per driver.

Do I need to take out my own travel insurance?

Travel insurance is not included, therefore you will need to take out your own policy.

What if I break down?

In the unlikely event of a breakdown, we have a roadside assistance policy. Please contact us for advice at the time of breakdown, so we can help.

Do you provide child car seats?

No, sorry. You will need to provide car seats for any children on the trip, in line with UK law.

Are dogs allowed?

We’re sorry, dogs can’t stay in Drover.

Is smoking permitted?

No way, sorry! Drover is strictly a no-smoking, no-vaping zone.

Is there a deposit?

We request a 20% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking, and the balance within four weeks of your trip. A £750 refundable security bond is payable 14 days before hire.

How do I book?

Please book online at the bookings page.

Before booking and paying the deposit please read the terms and conditions of our Hire Agreement and our Insurance. Sorry, these are slightly dull - but absolutely essential!
